Mission
"The mission of The Holy Kingdom of The Palms is to unite the people who fight for animal and human rights, the ones who fight for environmental protection and even the ones who fight against genetic engineering and other unethical uses of biotechnology and keep them united under a flag to gain political power and help change the world." - Official mission statement of The Holy Kingdom of The Palms, Denis Jaimes, 1st of May, 2008.
Combating the three problems: Animal mistreatment/Human rights abuse, environmental destruction and unethical uses of biotechnology (known as the Evil 3s) is one of the highest priorities of The Holy Kingdom of The Palms and probably the only reason why this nation exists. There are three types of issues within these fields: the core issues, which The Holy Kingdom of The Palms strongly opposes and will more likely never stop opposing them, the debatable issues, which are dynamic positions where debate is acceptable and the accepted issues, because The Holy Kingdom of The Palms also proposes some issues despite all the issues opposed. An issue can either be strongly opposed, opposed, neutralized, supported or strongly supported. Some ideas might be either partially opposed or partially supported. This means that some things (always the majority) are opposed, whereas others are either neutral or proposed.
| Issue | Type | Classification | Status | Reasons |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Abortion | Human rights | Debatable | Opposed | Unborn babies are living humans. |
| Animal consumption | Animal rights | Core | Partially opposed | The farming of animals with the purpose of slaughter, whether free range or not, is cowardice, hypocrisy and an act of treason. |
| Animal genetic engineering | Animal rights/Unethical biotechnology | Core | Strongly opposed | Genetic engineering of animals is a threat to biodiversity and a symbol of human domination over animals. GM animals are generally used for animal testing, human consumption and entertainment, the three of which are considered animal cruelty. |
| Animal testing | Animal rights | Core | Strongly opposed | Animal testing causes suffering to animals and promotes injustice among the species in the mammal category. |
| Battery farming | Animal rights | Core | Strongly opposed | Battery farming causes mental/physical pain to animals. |
| Capitalism | Environmental destruction | Debatable | Neutral | Capitalism often encourages environmental destruction and focuses society on economic progress rather than moral ones. |
| Christianity | Human rights | Accepted | Supported | Christianity promotes the message of love amongst humans and is an important feature of non-violence. Even though some writings in the bible promote discrimination, slavery, etc., most of what is written in it is acceptable and adopted. |
| Cloning | Unethical biotechnology | Core | Strongly opposed | The beauty of the world lies in the varieties. Cloning is also a symbol of human dominance over life. |
| Cloning (Therapeutic) | Unethical biotechnology | Debatable | Opposed | Therapeutic cloning devalues life and encourages the use of it as a tool to suit human needs. |
| Embryonic stem cell research | Unethical biotechnology | Debatable | Strongly opposed | Embryonic stem cell research lacks human dignity and encourages the use of life as a tool to suit human needs. |
| Drug use (Illegal) | Human rights | Debatable | Opposed | Illegal drugs are used as a commercial exploitation of the individual's addiction and is therefore unethical. One notable exception is cannabis, because it also has potential medical benefits. |
| Gene therapy | Unethical biotechnology | Debatable | Opposed | Gene therapy involves genetic engineering of viruses which corrupts the systematic structure of life. One branch of that structure is our ecosystem; genetically modified viruses might indeed cause environmental damages. The other branch is the mechanics of life which involve human emotions. Gremline gene therapy is considered unethical by The Holy Kingdom of The Palms because it causes permanent deletion in some diseases. We believe that diseases were brought to the world for a reason and without them we wouldn't be able to appreciate health. We do believe, however, that diseases should be cured, which is often thought otherwise by some people, because curing diseases gives doctors a purpose in life, which is something every single person in this world should have. Somatic gene therapy is what we would accept if we had to choose between gremline gene therapy or the somatic one, although we would strongly encourage using alternatives to curing genetic disorders. |
| Genetically modified food | Unethical biotechnology | Core | Strongly opposed | Genetically modified crops are a thread to biodiversity and even human health. They also symbolize human dominance over life. |
| Homosexuality | Human rights | Accepted | Supported | Homosexuality is morally acceptable. Homosexuals don't do harm to anybody. It is not a choice. |
| Transhumanism | Unethical biotechnology | Core | Strongly opposed | Transhumanism is a major corruption in the systematic structure of life which leads to emotional consequences in the human race. It also symbolizes human dominance over life as well as human greed. |
| Video games | Human rights | Debatable | Partially opposed | Some video games promote the idea of violence and crimes amongst humans. Another problem with some video games is addiction and that they have the potential of commercial exploitation of people. |
Territorial claim
Land reclamation: We believe that land reclamation is an alternative to genetic engineering and the use of synthetic pesticides and has the potential to extend farming to the seas. Also, land reclamation could serve as a solution to overpopulation by expanding the world's earth mass from 21% to at least 25%. Indeed, land reclamation also causes environmental damages, but these damages can be repaired as the process continues. We are planning to build a 0.3 km2 artificial island very close to a beach in Venezuela to claim it as our territory. A notable example of our plans and ideas is Spiral Island, not only because it expands habitable land, but because it encourages recycling. Indeed, with about 3,500 glass bottles, it is possible to build a 6m2 island in 1m deep waters. Two reasons why we discourage the use of plastic is because it is too light and because it is pollutant.
Secession: Claiming an island as our own and gaining independence is another way of getting territory for out nation, although it is not the first plan we will attempt to run.
